Holistic Wellness &
Hormone Therapy:
Debunking the Myths

We need to have an honest conversation about hormones. Not the clinical, textbook kind — the real kind. The kind where we tell you what we've seen in our practice, what we believe, and why we think hormone health is one of the most overlooked pillars of how you look, feel, and age. This is personal for us.

When we founded Renew, we made a deliberate choice: we weren't going to be a place that just smooths wrinkles and sends you home. Don't get us wrong — we love what great Botox and fillers can do. But over the years, we've watched too many patients come in feeling exhausted, foggy, gaining weight they can't explain, losing sleep, losing interest in things they used to enjoy — and no amount of aesthetic treatment was going to fix what was happening beneath the surface.

That's where hormone optimization enters the picture. And that's where the myths start flying.

Myth #1: Hormone therapy is dangerous

This is the big one, and it traces back to a single study from 2002 (the Women's Health Initiative) that sent shockwaves through medicine. Here's what most people don't know: that study used synthetic hormones in women who were, on average, a decade past menopause. The findings were widely misinterpreted and the resulting fear caused an entire generation of women to suffer through symptoms that were completely treatable.

Modern bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) uses hormones that are molecularly identical to what your body already produces. When prescribed appropriately, monitored closely, and started at the right time, the research overwhelmingly supports its safety and efficacy. We're not talking about reckless prescribing — we're talking about precision medicine, tailored to your specific lab work and symptoms.

Myth #2: It's only for menopause

Hormone imbalances don't wait for menopause. We see patients in their 30s and 40s — women dealing with perimenopause symptoms they didn't even know had a name. Fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, weight gain around the midsection, thinning hair, low libido. These aren't "just stress" or "just aging." They're often hormone signals that something is shifting — and addressing them early can make a profound difference in quality of life.

And it's not just women. Men experience hormonal decline too (sometimes called andropause), and the symptoms — fatigue, muscle loss, mood changes, weight gain — can be equally disruptive.

Myth #3: Hormones have nothing to do with aesthetics

This one frustrates us the most. Hormones have everything to do with how you look. Estrogen is directly tied to skin elasticity, collagen production, and hydration. Testosterone supports muscle tone, energy, and body composition. Thyroid hormones affect your hair, your skin texture, even your nail quality. When your hormones are optimized, aesthetic treatments work better. Your skin responds more vibrantly to facials and lasers. Your body holds contour better. You heal faster. You glow differently.

We've seen it over and over: patients who plateau with aesthetic treatments alone suddenly see dramatic improvements when we address what's happening hormonally. It's not magic — it's medicine.

Our philosophy: Beauty starts from within

This is what "holistic wellness" means to us at Renew. It's not a buzzword. It's a belief that you deserve more than surface-level care. We want to help you feel as good as you look — and look as good as you feel. That means listening to the full picture. Your energy levels. Your sleep. Your mood. Your goals. Not just which wrinkle bothers you most.

We're not anti-aesthetic. We're pro-whole-person. And we believe the best version of you emerges when we treat both.

Start the conversation

If anything in this post resonated with you — if you've been dismissed, told "it's just stress," or wondered whether something deeper is going on — we want to hear from you. A simple consultation and some bloodwork can be the beginning of a completely different chapter. No judgment. No pressure. Just an honest conversation between you and a provider who actually cares.

Because at Renew, we didn't name ourselves after a surface treatment. We named ourselves after what we believe is possible for every patient who walks through our doors.
